Trauma Proficient Practice Series: Demonstration
Examining Experience Through the Trauma Lenses
Monday, March 16, 2026, 9:00-11:00 AM Eastern (virtual)This training will demonstrate how to examine specific case information through the trauma lenses discussed in “Basic Training in Child Trauma”. Utilizing real case information, we walk through the process of analyzing developmental history, trauma, and relationship information from the client to better understand the impact of early traumatic experiences on their current psychological functioning. The analysis includes insights derived from viewing children’s behavior as a non-verbal form of communication. We then consider how this information can inform treatment approaches tailored to each provider’s own setting. Participants will also receive information regarding secondary traumatic stress and supports using reflective supervision.
Target audience: all professionals working with children one-on-one.Other dates for "Examining Experience Through the Trauma Lenses":
Thursday 6/25/2026, 1:00-3:00 PM Eastern;
Friday 10/16/2026, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Eastern.

Secondary Traumatic Stress in Clinical Settings
Monday, April 6, 2026, 9:00-11:00 AM Eastern“Compassion Satisfaction” is the sense of pride and accomplishment many health care workers can derive from their work. Yet, according to NCTSN, 30%-50% of caring professionals experience compassion fatigue or secondary traumatic stress, often leading to burnout and professionals leaving the field. Much like the traumatic experiences of our clients, the secondary stress felt by caring professionals can lead to changes in the way we process and think.
Participants will discuss secondary traumatic stress (“STS”) and its relevance to these trends. We will define STS and two related problems, compassion fatigue and burnout. Then we will consider symptoms of these and how to develop resilience through a personal “compassion satisfaction plan” that protects their well-being and effectiveness in this work.
Target audience: all professionals working with children one-on-one.Other dates for "Secondary Traumatic Stress in Clinical Settings":
Thursday 7/16/2026, 1:00-3:00 PM Eastern;
Friday 11/6/2026, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Eastern.
